Picking my genre

The genre is probably the most important decision I must make for this project. The setting in which I record, the amount of foley I must use, and even my actors depend on the genre I choose. Although my teacher has prepared us and we have done enough research to understand the characteristics of most genres and how to execute them, my top 2, so far, are:

- Suspense: A common characteristic of a suspense film is maintaining a state of uncertainty or excitement regarding a specific outcome. Suspense is typically paired with feelings of anxiousness and anticipation. It is mainly used to keep an audience deeply engaged in what is occurring. Regarding a film opening, the approach of developing the setting can be used to create suspense on what is going to happen next.

Some suspense films to check out are:

        - Bird Box (2018)

        - Get Out (2017)

- Drama: Drama is created when a heightened sense of reality is portrayed through relatable human experience. Meaning, this genre is more realistic and focuses on human relationships. Conflict is always included in a drama, which is what draws the viewer to the storyline. In a film opening, although conflict should not be directly shown, it can be foreshadowed by using the approach of developing a character.

Some drama films to check out are:

        - We Live In Time (2024)

        - It Ends With Us (2024)
